Titanium: The Best Choice of Flat Iron

The debate of titanium vs. ceramic straighteners can keep many flat iron shoppers confused. However, the benefits titanium plated flat irons make it the clear winner. Check out the following benefits of titanium plated straighteners:

Heating Benefits
Titanium is where it's at!
One main difference between titanium and ceramic flat irons is the faster heating. Titanium heats up much faster than ceramic cutting your styling time down. Titanium's heat distribution is also more even than ceramic helping for even styling.

Titanium also allows higher heat settings than most ceramic irons. This is a huge benefit for those with thick, curly, or hard-to-straighten hair. Don't worry if you don't need extreme heat because U-Smooth irons have digital temperature control. Click here to determine where to set your iron for your hair type.

Ionic Boost
Titanium irons have a higher ionic output than ceramic irons. Why is this important? Damaged hair is positively charged from chemicals, static, etcetera. These positive charges cause follicles to open causing split ends. The negative ions given off by titanium irons neutralize the charge, closing up follicles and smoothing the hair shaft. Therefore, the more negative ions to your hair, the healthier the hair shaft.

Other Benefits
Titanium is naturally corrosion resistant. This means that your titanium plates will not scratch or chip allowing your iron a longer lifetime. Ceramic plates have a tendency to crack over time, and the hair no longer slips between plates without feeling a drag. Because titanium will not crack, your hair will slip through the plates minimizing damage and frizz.

U-Smooth flat irons have titanium coated plates bringing you all of these benefits when styling your hair. Next time you are on the market for a quality flat iron that will give you the best results, remember, titanium is the way to go!

How to Prevent Frizzy Hair

If you have ever experienced frizzy hair, you know just how frustrating the problem can be. However, don't fear! There are plenty of methods to prevent frizz, and also ways to control and get rid of frizz if you already struggle with it.

Get beautiful frizz-free hair
in no time!
To Prevent Frizz

1. Use a hydrating shampoo and conditioner. Salon quality shampoos and conditioners are best to keep moisture in your hair. We suggest Paul Mitchell's Instant Moisture Daily Shampoo and Daily Treatment.

2. Use a leave-in conditioner. Using a leave in conditioner daily will protect your hair against potential environmental damages. Try Staying.Alive by Kevin.Murphy. Simply spritz the conditioner onto wet hair and comb it through.

3. Keep up with cuts. Consistently trimming every 4-6 weeks will help get rid of split ends and stop them from splitting further. Discuss with your stylist how much you should trim to keep your ends healthy.

4. Dry your hair. Wait until all of the moisture is out of hair before blow drying. Heat changes the shape of your hair. Plus, the movement from a blow dryer can create frizz.

5. Use quality styling tools. Since you may need to touch up some problem areas, use a salon quality tool. The U-Smooth flat iron has titanium coated plates to glide smoothly through your hair eliminating frizz as you style. You can use the U-Smooth for straightening or for curling.

If you Already have Frizzy Hair

To combat current issues, use a damage control product once a week. Try Paul Mitchell's The Masque to add moisture and improve hair's elasticity. Also, refrain from dying your hair as long as possible. Color can dry out and damage hair, creating more frizz.

Then, incorporate the above steps into your regular beauty program to maintain healthy hair.

By staying consistent with your hair health routine and using salon quality products, your lovely locks will be frizz-free in no time!

How To Curl Your Hair with a Flat Iron

Flat Irons are great tools for straightening your hair into smooth, sleek styles. They can be awesome curling tools as well!

Here's how:

Step 1:  Pull 3/4 of your hair into a clip. Work on the bottom layer of hair first. Take a small section of unclipped hair, clamp your flat iron about 3" from the root.

Step 2:  Wrap hair around the flat iron once.
Step 3:  Pull the iron straight down.
Step 4:  Curl small sections on that layer until the whole layer is curled.
Step 5:  Repeat steps 1, 2 and 3 until all layers are curled.
For tighter curls, rotate the iron as you pull it through hair. Don't worry if you don't get this technique perfect the first time. Practice makes perfect. Take your time and soon you will master the art of curling with a flat iron! Watch the video below for a more in-depth look at curling with your flat iron.

Extend The Life of Your Flat Iron

Flat irons are great hair styling tools that can bring tons of fresh styles to every owner. In your hair-styling routine it’s important to remember the basic care of our hair and straighteners. Taking care of your hair and your flat iron will not only give you the best styling results, but it also extends the life of your straightener.

#1 - Clean Iron Regularly
To ensure your straightener will pass smoothly through your hair, keep your iron clean. To clean your straightener, pour a small amount of rubbing alcohol on a soft cloth and wipe the plates while your flat iron is still warm (not hot, but warm). The alcohol will soften buildup on your straightener so you can wipe it. It’s best to clean your iron after each use. Simply wipe clean while it is cooling so that it will be ready the next time you want to use it!

#2 - Style Clean Hair
Whether you are straightening, flipping, or curling with your flat iron, one basic, but important tip is to make sure your hair is clean. Washing your hair will clean out grease and any product buildup that could potentially accumulate on your flat iron. Making sure your hair is clean before using a flat iron will also help the flat iron pull smoothly through your hair.

Having a regular up-keep schedule for your hair and your flat iron will keep your hair healthier and extend your straightener’s lifetime.
